 True Worship

True Worship by Vaughan Roberts

Vaughan Roberts writes in the introduction, “God alone is worthy of worship. But what does that actually mean? ‘Worship’ is a slippery word. People ask us: ‘Where do you worship?’ by which they mean: ‘Where do you go to church?’ Others leave a Christian meeting and say: ‘It was a great time of worship tonight’, by which they mean the singing. Is that all that worship is? Or is there more to it than that? What is worship? And how should we do it?”

True Worship is an excellent exposition of what true biblical worship is. Vaughan Roberts starts by highlighting the way in which Jesus says Christians should worship in Spirit and in truth (John 4:24).

Vaughan Roberts then continues by using scripture to explain how we should use our entire lives in worship (Romans 12:1-2) before moving onto what the Bible says worship is and what worship is not. Vaughan Roberts concludes True Worship with a chapter on the place of music and singing in worship and a chapter on understanding the LORDs supper.

This short book of 6 chapters and 106 pages has scripture woven throughout, and has challenged my view on worship. It has encouraged me to offer my entire life in worship as a living sacrifice to God. It has challenged me to keep Jesus, the Spirit and the truth of the Gospel at the heart of my worship and I have been joyfully convinced to sing with the purpose of encouraging others in the praise of God.

A must read book for all who want to “worship God in Spirit and in truth”.
